Apple TV+ presents Mick Jagger discussing the creation of the theme song for “Slow Horses”

According to Mick Jagger, who wrote the lyrics for the show’s theme song, “Slow Horses,” an Apple TV+ thriller featuring his first-ever television theme song, “Slow Horses,”

Adapted from Mick Herron’s novels, “Slow Horses” is a darkly comic spy thriller produced by See-Saw Films exclusively for Apple TV+. It premieres on Friday, April 1, 2022, with “Strange Game,” a theme song written by Jagger and composed by Daniel Pemberton that features lyrics by Jagger.

According to the Rolling Stones singer, this is a well-known series of books, so I had an idea of what to expect. For me, it was just a matter of jotting down some notes as soon as the track was sent to me by [Daniel Pemberton]. It arrived very quickly, which is a good sign in and of itself. “

Rather than meeting face-to-face, Pemberton and Jagger communicated via Zoom because of the coronavirus.

Pemberton explained, “I played the track on guitar for him.” Unfortunately, I am not even a competent guitarist. As strange as it may sound, I played guitar on the Zoom line for Mick Jagger. “

As for Jagger, he claims to have penned the lyrics and “just recorded it on my iPhone, and sent it to him.”

“It’s quite irreverent, but the Gary Oldman character is irreverent,” says Jagger. In addition, it’s a little spooky, so it’s a good mix of both. You don’t want to take it too seriously. “

Director James Hawes and music supervisor Catherine Grieves came up with the idea of contacting Mick Jagger. This is a distinctly British show, set in an equally British genre, according to Hawes, “that had to find its own flavour.”

“In the beginning, I thought that we could use a song in the opening to help us set the tone,” he continued, “especially with the first show, which has a very dynamic, perhaps more conventional action opening.”

They wanted a song that reflected the “gravity and swagger” of Jackson Lamb, the main character (Gary Oldman). They say they immediately and only considered Mick Jagger, but they didn’t believe they would get the rock star they desired.

He says he and Hawes “probably both laughed” at the storey.

Streaming of the first two episodes of “Slow Horses” will begin on April 1, 2022, on Apple TV Plus. The remaining four episodes will be released on Fridays, with a new one being released each week.
