The Apple Watch Series 8, the second-generation Apple Watch SE, and a new Apple Watch “Pro” with improved durability geared towards extreme athletes are the three new Apple Watch models that are believed to be coming out this year.
The Apple Watch Pro will launch with a whole new design that updates the form factor that Apple first launched with the Series 4 in 2018. This information comes from reporter Mark Gurman. Thanks to recent leaks from China, we now have more information on the tough new Pro model.
Two pictures, one tweeted by leaker Sonny Dickson (above), and the other posted to Weibo by user UnclePan (below), both of whom have previously provided reliable information, appear to depict companion covers for the next Apple Watch Pro.
The cases do indeed suggest that the main body of the watch will be rounded, while the upper rim of the chassis that meets the display will be flat and possibly sit flush with a flatter screen than the Series 7 model, possibly to provide better all-around protection against impacts. UnclePan writes in his post that the “Pro is not square in the traditional sense, but a new form factor.”
On the right, there are multiple cutouts that look to be larger, more projecting the Digital Crown and Side buttons. On the left, there are two apertures that appear to be larger than usual where the device’s thin speaker slats usually reside; one round and one pill-shaped. It’s unclear if these are there to make room for a new speaker design or extra physical buttons.
Multiple speculations stated Apple was developing a new design with flat edges comparable to the flat sides of the iPhones and iPads like the iPhone 13 and iPad Pro before the arrival of the Apple Watch Series 7, but that didn’t end up occurring. The Apple Watch Pro may have a flat display and a similar design, according to rumors, but the device’s edges won’t reportedly be flat.
Users will be able to examine more fitness and health-tracking data at once on the new Apple Watch Pro’s substantially larger touchscreen, it is said. According to Gurman, the Pro model will also have new watch faces and a low-power option.
The diagonal measurement of the display is rumored to be close to two inches, which is larger than the 1.9-inch diagonal screens of the current Apple Watch Series 7 and the next Apple Watch Series 8. It is also anticipated to have a larger battery to support longer workout sessions and a screen that is more shatter-resistant.
With no changes to the chassis, the regular Apple Watch Series 8 devices are anticipated to have the same design as the Apple Watch Series 7 models.
On September 7th, Apple is rumored to hold a special event at Steve Jobs Theater where the iPhone 14 lineup would be unveiled. Apple is rumored to be releasing new AirPods Pro earbuds in addition to the new iPhones and Apple Watch models.
