Apple Watch Series 3 has been updated to watchOS 8.7.1

The watchOS 8 operating system, which was introduced in September 2021, received a minor update today from Apple, called watchOS 8.7.1. Bug fixes are the main focus of watchOS 8.7.1, which was released one month after watchOS 8.7. Only Apple Watch Series 3 models can get the watchOS 8.7.1 upgrade; owners of Apple Watches from later generations won’t get it.

Through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone, select General > Software Update to access the free download of watchOS 8.7.1.

The Apple Watch must have at least 50% battery life, be plugged into a charger, and be within range of the iPhone in order to install the new software.

WatchOS 8.7.1 corrects a fault that might lead to an unexpected restart of the Apple Watch Series 3 for some users, according to Apple’s release notes for the update.

WatchOS 8.7.1 is anticipated to be one of the final upgrades for the watchOS 8 operating system, as Apple has now turned its attention to watchOS 9, the newest version of watchOS, scheduled for release this fall.
