Facebook and Apple are expected to fight for control of the digital universe

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently informed staff that Meta would be in direct competition with Apple when it comes to developing AR and VR platforms as the metaverse takes shape.

In June, a Meta employee inquired as to the impact on Meta’s environment of Apple’s absence from the Metaverse Standards Forum.

According to a recording of an internal meeting acquired by The Verge, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg informed staff that Meta would be competing against Apple to choose “what direction the internet should go in.”

He also thinks Apple will want tight control of the experience because “they feel that by doing everything themselves and tightly integrating that they generate a superior consumer experience,” says Zuckerberg.

Apple is in direct opposition to Meta, which currently permits side loading on its Quest headset. According to Zuckerberg, this is a “deep, philosophical competition over what direction the internet should go in.”

According to him, an open or closed environment is better, and that Apple’s method may be more advantageous than Meta’s approach to an open ecosystem. He’s undecided. It is said in his statement that Meta’s mission is to get its products into people’s homes.

The goal is to have “a billion people in the metaverse doing hundreds of dollars a piece in digital commerce by the end of the decade,” delivering the same revenue as Meta’s present advertising operation. That’s about how much Apple makes per App Store customer every year now.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed interest in augmented reality even though the company has not formally launched any augmented or virtual reality devices.

There have been persistent rumors that Apple is working on a variety of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) gadgets, including a high-end Apple VR visor that might concentrate on virtual reality and gaming. It is said that Apple is also working on a wearable device that would be a companion to an iPhone and would be a more compact and lightweight version of the “Apple Glass.”
