iPad Pro is expected to be lighter in 2024 as Apple finally plans to reduce its weight

According to recent sources, Apple is reportedly planning to dramatically lower the weight of the iPad Pro in 2024 as part of a major update to the product.

ET News reports that Apple is working to reduce the weight of the 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro devices due out in 2024. Apple switched to a dry etching process to reduce display weight, which is credited with helping to achieve this goal. Apple had to create a unique cover for the new screens since they are so much thinner.

The fundamental changes to the display components come alongside this update to panel technology that will bring pixel-accurate true blacks to the iPad, just like they do on the iPhone and Apple Watch. It is widely rumoured that the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in 2024 will be getting an OLED display for the first time in order to deliver “unrivalled image quality.”

The Wi-Fi-only models of the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro weigh 466 grammes (1.03 pounds) and 682 grammes (1.5 pounds), respectively, and it is as yet unclear how far Apple will be able to reduce weight. This is especially true considering that the rumoured redesign for the iPad Pro this year could include a glass back for wireless charging, which is likely to be heavier than the current aluminium back.

However, decreasing the iPad Pro’s weight as part of a smaller design could alleviate some of the concerns of some consumers and make the gadget more portable. Apple’s Magic Keyboard and 12.9-inch iPad Pro have been slammed for weighing more than the 13-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch MacBook Air.

It is now thought that Apple is creating the final prototypes of these forthcoming iPad devices with OLED panels. Apple is apparently producing the prototypes in collaboration with its Korean display partners Samsung and LG Display so that the company may carry out a series of tests well in advance of the launch, which is planned to take place in 2024.
