Upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max smartphones might finally feature an always-on display

Washington [United States], May 30 (ANI): The iPhone 14 Pro and Max smartphones from Apple may eventually get an always-on display function.

According to a report from The Verge, Apple is expected to include the feature in iOS 16, allowing the iPhone to display a limited amount of information even while it is locked.

Reports claim the iPhone’s always-on feature may function in the same way as the Apple Watch Series 5 and above. With always-on mode activated, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will reduce the lock screen’s frame rate, allowing them to save battery life while the display is still powered on.

It’s unclear if the upcoming iPhone will employ the same low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display that Apple uses in newer Watch models. According to the outlet, low-power screens are critical to making always-on mode operate. They’re designed to keep devices from consuming too much energy.

It was expected that the iPhone 13 would have an LTPO display, which would allow for an always-on display, to be included. Several Android smartphones have long supported the always-on capability.

As an illustration, the always-on display on certain Samsung phones displays information such as the time and battery level even while the phone is locked.

According to The Verge, iOS 16 will have comparable capabilities, including wallpapers with widget-like capabilities. (ANI)
